Our origin story: the heart of Australian DayZ
DayZDownUnder (DDU) began its journey with Spud and his mates, quickly becoming a beacon for first-person hardcore DayZ in Oceania. Our peak saw a thriving faction-based community on Chernarus from 2018 to 2021.
In 2021, DDU merged with Stranded - Zysen to form a larger knowledge-sharing network. Zysen took the reins in 2022, and DDU flourished with servers on DeerIsle and Chernarus in 2023.
While 2024 was quieter.
2025 brought map rotations on Banov, DeerIsle, Pripyat with Straya Dayz, and Green County, before returning to Chernarus with custom keycard areas, including the iconic Bunnings keycard.
We also introduced our own lore and quests, like Origin Protocol or the Meridian Echo, designed by Funkpetal to deepen player immersion. Thousands of hours have been volunteered by Spacecat, Zysen, and Funkpetal to continue the legacy of Spud and original founders of DDU and to grow and nurture the DDU community.

At DayZDownUnder, integrity is our bedrock. We believe trust is essential, ensuring rules are applied fairly, investigations are evidence-based, and staff are held to the same high standards. Transparency, accountability, and honesty guide everything we do. Fair play is paramount; we aim for a balanced survival experience where success comes from skill, teamwork, planning, and perseverance, not exploits. Every player deserves a genuine chance to thrive. Most importantly, DDU is a community. We encourage respectful interactions, memorable adventures, rivalries, alliances, and the shared stories that make DayZ unique. Whether you're a veteran or a fresh spawn, you're part of our family. And remember: don't be a dick!
Meet the legends behind DDU
Our current staff team is led by Zysen, our owner and developer.
Funkpetal is our lead admin, co-owner, developer, and the face of DDU. A major figure in OCE gaming, Funkpetal has connections with Companions as a ban mod, assists Northmen servers, and founded SODA, a network for server owners.
SpaceCat serves as senior admin to Funk, modder, and developer of their own server Outland, while assisting with map setup.
Marrz, our admin and community events organiser, was instrumental during the Party Bus phase on DeerIsle and loves PvP.
Zombiewaffle is our beloved Discord moderator, dedicated to keeping our community organised and engaging.
